FactDecode now lets you use your own CSV-imported data as a Target Asset.

This makes it possible to analyze eligible indices and other time-series data that are not available through FactDecode’s standard data sources.

In this article, we use imported daily TOPIX data as an example.

Use CSV-imported data as a Target Asset

Previously, data imported from CSV files could be added to FactDecode for analysis, but it could not be selected as the Target Asset for a Project.

With this update, you can now use your own CSV-imported daily data as a Target Asset when it meets the required conditions.

This expands the range of data you can analyze in FactDecode beyond the datasets available through its standard data sources. For example, you can now use indices or other time-series data that you have prepared yourself as the target of an analysis. The feature is specifically designed to allow eligible user-owned imported datasets to be used as Target Assets.

Analyze TOPIX as a Target Asset

In this example, we use daily TOPIX data.

FactDecode currently cannot retrieve the TOPIX index itself directly through its standard data sources. For this example, we therefore prepared the TOPIX daily series separately and imported it into FactDecode as a CSV file.

If the imported dataset meets the requirements for use as a Target Asset, it can be selected when creating a new Project.

CSV data used as a Target Asset must meet several conditions. For example, it must be daily data, all values must be greater than zero, and the dataset must contain enough history for the selected analysis horizon. Data that does not meet the required conditions cannot be used as a Target Asset.

Please make sure that you have the appropriate rights to use any data you import.

Target Assets are now clearer on the Design screen

After a Project is created, the selected Target Asset is now shown as a fixed part of the Project Design.

This makes it easier to distinguish the data being analyzed from the Raw Data and Factors used to explain or model it, so you can clearly see what the Project is designed to analyze while configuring the rest of the Design.

The Target Asset is also excluded from the Raw Data selection options. This helps keep the analysis target separate from the datasets used as explanatory inputs. This separation is part of the updated Project Design behavior.

Analyze it using the same workflow as before

Once an imported dataset has been selected as the Target Asset, the rest of the analysis workflow remains largely unchanged.

You can select the Raw Data and Factors you want to use in the Project Design and then run the analysis as usual.

Using a CSV-imported Target Asset does not change the underlying approach used to calculate the Target Return or perform analyses such as Factor Analysis and SHAP Analysis. The core Target Asset calculation logic remains unchanged.

Expand the range of data you can analyze

With this update, FactDecode is no longer limited to using only the datasets available through its standard data sources as analysis targets.

You can now bring in your own eligible time-series data and use it as a Target Asset, making it possible to analyze market indices, proprietary datasets, and other series that were previously unavailable as direct targets in FactDecode.

We will continue expanding the range of data and analysis options available in FactDecode, giving you greater flexibility in how you use the platform.
